Expanding Gaussian kernels for multivariate conditional density estimation

چکیده
In this paper, we propose a new method to estimate the multivariate conditional density, f(mjx), a density over the output space m conditioned on any given input x. In particular, we are interested in cases where the number of available training data points is relatively sparse within x space. We start from a priori considerations and establish certain desirable characteristics in kernel functions for conditional density estimation. We nd that Gaussian kernels with expanding covariances, expanding as we move away from the data point of the kernel, satisfy these a priori considerations. We combine these Expanding Gaussian Kernels (EGK) according to Bayesian techniques. We compare the EGK with Standard Gaussian Kernel (SDK) methods, and nd that EGK avoids multimodality, has diminishing conndence levels farther from training points, performs better asymptotically, and performs better with respect to the Kullback-Leibler criteria.

Kernel Density Estimation on Spaces of Gaussian Distributions and Symmetric Positive Definite Matrices
This paper analyses the kernel density estimation on spaces of Gaussian distributions endowed with different metrics. Explicit expressions of kernels are provided for the case of the 2-Wasserstein metric on multivariate Gaussian distributions and for the Fisher metric on multivariate centred distributions. Under the Fisher metric, the space of multivariate centred Gaussian distributions is isom...
متن کاملPosterior consistency in conditional distribution estimation
A wide variety of priors have been proposed for nonparametric Bayesian estimation of conditional distributions, and there is a clear need for theorems providing conditions on the prior for large support, as well as posterior consistency. Estimation of an uncountable collection of conditional distributions across different regions of the predictor space is a challenging problem, which differs in...
متن کاملFast and Extensible Online Multivariate Kernel Density Estimation
In this paper we present xokde++, a state-of-the-art online kernel density estimation approach that maintains Gaussian mixture models input data streams. The approach follows state-of-the-art work on online density estimation, but was redesigned with computational efficiency, numerical robustness, and extensibility in mind. Our approach produces comparable or better results than the current sta...
متن کاملSupport Vector Method for Multivariate Density Estimation
Sayan Mukherjee CBCL, MIT E25-201 Cambridge, MA 02142 [email protected] A new method for multivariate density estimation is developed based on the Support Vector Method (SVM) solution of inverse ill-posed problems. The solution has the form of a mixture of densities. This method with Gaussian kernels compared favorably to both Parzen's method and the Gaussian Mixture Model method. For synthetic ...
متن کاملAdaptive Bayesian multivariate density estimation with Dirichlet mixtures
We show that rate-adaptive multivariate density estimation can be performed using Bayesian methods based on Dirichlet mixtures of normal kernels with a prior distribution on the kernel’s covariance matrix parameter. We derive sufficient conditions on the prior specification that guarantee convergence to a true density at a rate that is minimax optimal for the smoothness class to which the true ...
